The Airplane Tow Bar

Airplane Tow Bar

How many times have you come out to the hangar and faced the daunting task of moving your aircraft out to the ramp without the help of an airplane tow bar? Many owners of light aircraft are still doing the hard way. Sooner or later they will hurt themselves or the aircraft. Having a tow bar can save your back as well as providing much more control while you're moving the airplane. Even the lightest of aircraft e.g. A Piper Cub can be moved more efficiently this way.

There are almost as many different configurations of the aircraft tow bar as there are aircraft. The benefits of having the proper equipment for moving your aircraft can pay dividends for years to come. When you ding your airplane by hitting the hangar or worse yet and adjacent aircraft due to lack of the inherent control a tow bar can afford, the cost of the repair(s) can greatly exceed the cost of having the proper equipment. Stopping the aircraft from rolling when you need to is of primary concern. Your tow may be of the manual type because you are moving a very light aircraft. Or you may be using a tow bar attached to a tractor tug. Regardless of the form, you will be better off using an airplane tug every time you move your aircraft.

An airplane tow bar is an essential compliment to your hangar more so than any other piece of equipment you will invest in. The Dragger tug line has several different configurations of gasoline or battery powered tow bar tugs. These tugs will move many of the single engine aircraft on the market today. Additionally, pilots will be happy to know many of the tail wheel airplane configurations as well.

Some customers are initially surprised at the amount of control they gain when using an airplane tow bar. This is especially true when you are part of a community hangar and take on the additional responsibility of not hitting your neighbors aircraft while you're moving your own. Talk to any aircraft insurance agent and you will hear first hand of the numerous cases of unnecessary damage that occurred while the airplane was being moved on the ground.

The airplane tow bar can be your best friend at the airport. If you are still moving your aircraft by pushing and pulling on the aircraft itself whether by yourself or worse yet with the help of others - consider getting your own personal tow bar that will make your life easier at the hangar.

The folks at Dragger will work hard to ensure they supply light aircraft owners with the best airplane tugs to fit the budget as well as the airplane. Our ground support equipment is designed in a walk behind configuration and rated for aircraft weighing up to 6000 lbs.
